Electrical problems with Scag Tiger Cat

Hi there,

My Scag Tiger Cat has done over 800 hours of mowing and it’s been running great until the last month. However I’ve developed electrical problems that appear to be burning out the various electrical components. Now the engine doesn’t start even after replacing the battery and getting a new ignition assembly. Could someone help me figure this out?

Hey Drake,

This could be an issue with your electric clutch coil – I’ve faced this myself with my Scag Tiger and that’s what caused the problem in my case. It would keep refuse to start and face electrical burnouts until I checked the clutch assembly. Ensure that your resistance is within the range of around 2.5 – 3.5 ohms – low resistance can blow out the fuse and cause the PTO switch to fail. The problem disappeared when I replaced the clutch and the PTO switch.
